Some Science and How It Is Made

To make our finger lime facial serum we have used only organic fruit grown on our farm. A company named Native Extracts uses a process that they call cellular extraction which aims to maintain the integrity of the natural molecules as they exist in nature thereby harnessing the synergy between them as they exist within the fruit. This process diffuses the fruit extract into a liquid medium delivering the full plant profile of water and oil soluble phyto-active compounds as they exist in nature. They are stable and active for long periods of time.  Please see below a copy of their certificate of analysis.

We have had our serum tested at Southern Cross university by their plant science analytic service. The Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LCMS) analysis reveals a range of phyto-active compounds. The levels within each batch may naturally vary a little as the fruit is picked at different times and seasons. However a typical analysis includes the following: Tryptophan, Phenolic acid, Quercertin, Coumarin derivatives, Liminoids, Organic acids such as vitamin C, Flavonone glycosides along with a range of other amino acids and amines.

Some of these natural compounds have been shown to benefit the skin in the following ways:

1. Tryptophan can help lock in natural moisture assisting the skin to stay hydrated. This limits further damage to the skin due to dehydration which is often a cause of pain, sensititivity, discomfort and itching.

2. Vitamin C has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory activity and assists with skin hydration. It is also a free radical scavenger.

3. Quercertin in known to reduce inflammation.

4. Phenolic acid helps repair the barrier function which is missing in damaged or inflamed skin. This can help with the symptoms of sensitised skin protecting from damaging environmental factors. Damaged skin needs to be repaired before you can nourish it.
